RMS Beauty - Approved By Meghan Markle & Kourtney Kardashian

 

Long before she launched her cult-classic beauty brand RMS Beauty in 2009, celebrity makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift was already an icon - traveling the world as a makeup artist and working on the faces of everyone from Giselle Bundchen to Miranda Kerr. Swift also frequently collaborated with Vogue, as well as notable celebrity photographers like Annie Leibovitz and Patrick Demarchelier.

Then, she got sick.

In her late 30s, Swift began experiencing a range of health issues - everything from insomnia to panic attacks. When a doctor couldn’t diagnose her, Swift had a lab run a detailed blood, hair and urine analysis and what she found shocked her. The lab tech found high levels of different chemicals in her tests and asked Rose-Marie if she worked in the cosmetic industry. As it turns out, the lab tech had noticed a lot of people come in with similar health issues in recent years - all from the beauty industry.

Swift quickly started researching just how frequently consumers were exposed to chemicals on a daily basis, and how many of them came from the beauty products that they used. By 2009, she’d had her lightbulb moment; putting all of her research into action, Swift concocted the now iconic beauty brand RMS Beauty with co-founder Elaine Sack (and about 18 SKUs!).

THE CLEAN BEAUTY REVOLUTION

 

Back when RMS Beauty just launched, social media was in its nascent stage. Which meant that for both Swift and Sack (now the COO of the company!), relying on the quality of the products (which always spoke for themselves!), their networks of A-list models, celebrities and magazine editors to talk about the brand and a customer base that was craving to add cleaner beauty products to their routines was instrumental in helping the business to get off the ground and running.
